Infection Control in Dentistry - A Practical Approach

Dental practices will be updated on current recommendations in proper infection control procedures as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The course format includes lecture and small group participation. Participants will receive continuing education credit applicable to licensing requirements and strengthen their skills in assessment, planning and implementation of infection control protocols.

Practical application, problem-solving ideas and product recommendations will be presented in a comfortable, fun atmosphere.

Course Objectives:

  • Recognize the CDC guidelines related to dental health care settings.
  • Understand the transmission, symptoms, differences and similarities of HIV, HBV, HCV and other infectious diseases.
  • Identify proper decontamination/sterilization methods and handling of regulated waste.
  • Demonstrate proper selection and usage of personal protection equipment.
  • Understand signs and symptoms of a latex allergy.
  • Know the requirements of the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act.
